DANCE DISCOVER
The Dance Discover project provides good quality, fun and innovative dance enrichment activity within Special Educational Needs Schools & College settings.
The project aims to:
- Encourage and engage children and young people to participate in dance
- Build self-esteem and confidence
- Develop pupils’ physical abilities and raise activity levels
- Motivate participants
- Develop communication, life and team skills.
We provide Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools with a unique and specially tailored dance provision that will lead pupils on a journey of movement discovery. In doing this, the individual needs of each pupil can be met and they can learn a new skill, express feelings and emotions and have fun! There is a real need for this project due to the lack of dance provision that caters for the varying needs of the young people within SEN settings. The LODT ethos is dance for all, and our unique approach allows us to be truly inclusive whilst also providing a tool for measurable progression within movement practice. We have seen first hand just how beneficial our work can be, especially with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties pupils. After piloting this project in two SEN schools, William Morris and Parayhouse, we know that a longer-term project has the greatest impact and provides lasting benefits.
